The BEAST Game of Calvin Abueva

Last season Calvin was struggling, though maybe it was because Luigi Trillo gave him limited playing time. He found it hard playing through the system(triangle offense), he can't maximize his strength with it. Nung rookie year niya siya ang namimikon sa kalaban pero last season siya na ang napipikon with extracurricular activities pa. He can't control his intensity in defense kaya laging foul trouble. From MVP candidate to unnoticeable in his sophomore year. That was a forgettable year for Calvin. Critics said his rookie year was just a fluke, a flop(which he's known for). I myself doubted him if he is for real. I even fantasized trading him for someone else...before the season starts I still have doubts but things change.

Now this free-wheeling offense, implemented by coach Alex Compton, brings out the BEAST of Calvin Abueva. To complement it they pressure the backcourt almost everytime. With this type of defense mataas ang chance na maka-turnover ang kalaban and they have much higher chance to score in the open court. And Calvin benefits from it because he loves to run and hustles a lot. He hustles like it is a do-or-die game everytime!! Yes he gives his 200% every game! Sabi nga nila larong kalye, bara bara lang kung maglaro at handang makipagpalitan ng mukha kung dumipensa. But it's different now may control na siya dumipensa hindi na sobrang hyper, which resulted to early foul trouble. This type of offense is maximizing his strengths unlike sa triangle na nalilimit siya kasi may pattern ang galaw nila sa opensa. Ngayon he is free to be anywhere he wants and that's exactly his type of game because he is all over the court. You can see him setting screens, diving for loose ball, challenging every shot, battling for offensive rebound and just everything! And of course his trademark, annoying the opponent's players. Swaaag. lol

When he falls hards just like this...

He will stand up stronger and play harder! Buwis buhay na laro. Tsaka na iisipin ang sakit pagkatapos ng game. Sino ba naman ang hindi gaganahan maglaro kung ganito ang kakampi mo. They were down as much as 18 points against TNT but because of Abueva's contagious hardwork, hustles and energy they made a huge run. Abueva made two crucial freethrows to tie the game. 18 seconds left and TNT with the possession, Castro drove to the basket but Casio made the most important steal of the game and quickly Calvin leaked out and made the game winning teardrop right just in the nick of time. Yeees siiiiiiiir! Calvin finished his heroic game with a baaaang!

No doubt that was the BEAST game of his life so far(more to come baby!). I give credit to Alex Compton for trusting him. Though I am still appalled with his zone defense against TNT who nailed a bunch of three pointers. Imagine if they didn't zone a lot... lol. But I commend the fullcourt press defense that he applied to the team. It really complemented the free-wheeling offense.

This is only a partial part of the much improve and better Calvin Abueva. hahaha! *crossfingers* Keep it up The Beast!

P.S Compton should let TDLC rest a  little and give, the more energetic,Rome Dela Rosa playing time. They have to understand that the Alaska's primary defender TDLC is so looooooong gone.

I am very fortunate to witnessed BEASTness!! yeaaaa! 26 points 22 rebounds and holy he is only a freaking 6 foot 1!
